Herner outlasted Donau-Ries in the opener. TH Wohnbau Angels were trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 16-10 charge of Herner TC, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American-Italian guard Beatrice Attura (170-94, college: Northwestern St., agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 14 points (made all of her seven free throws) for the winners and American guard Katie Bussey (175-90, college: Montana St., agency: LBM Management) chipped in 10 points and 4 steals. At the losing side Canadian guard Samantha Hill (178-94, college: Virginia Tech) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Canadian forward Kim Pierre-Louis (183-93, college: Massachusetts) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds.
