Regular Season Round 27: Caen - Aix-Maurienne 72-74

Important game to mention about took place in Caen. Twelfth ranked Aix-Maurienne (11-16) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 14th ranked Caen (9-18) 74-72 in the fight for the twelfth place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Caen won third quarter 22-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aix-Maurienne looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American-British point guard Akeem Williams (178-91, college: Mass.-Lowell) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Gambian forward Moses Sonko (196-83, college: Co.Carolina, agency: HMS) helped adding 16 points. Aix-Maurienne's coach Fabien Romeyer used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was point guard Thomas Cornely (190-91, agency: Octagon Europe) with 10 points and 7 assists and naturalized Swiss center David Ramseier (202-87) scored 11 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aix-Maurienne maintains twelfth place with 11-16 record. Loser Caen dropped to the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Aix-Maurienne will face Nantes (#17) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Caen will play against Denain Voltaire (#8) and hope to win that game.
