Regular Season Round 32: Ryukyu GK - Toshiba BT 69-83

There was a small surprise when third ranked Toshiba Thunders (34-18) beat top-ranked Ryukyu GK (39-12) in Okinawa 83-69 on Saturday. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Ryukyu GK's 20. They outrebounded Ryukyu GK 43-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The other American import forward Josh Davis (203-91, college: San Diego St.) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Hassan Martin (201-95, college: Rhode Island) added 13 points and 4 blocks in the effort for Ryukyu GK. Four Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toshiba Thunders maintains third position with 34-18 record having seven points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Loser Ryukyu GK still keeps top place with 12 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#3) in Hamamatsu in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ryukyu GK will play on the road against Niigata Albirex and hope to win that game.
