Regular Season Round 5: Sandringham S. - Diamond VE 64-93

There was a minor upset in Cheltenham where bottom-ranked Sabres (0-1) were outplayed by seventh ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-1) 93-64 on Saturday. The game without a history. Diamond Valley Eagles led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Diamond Valley Eagles looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Maddison Rocci (167-98) chipped in 15 points. Four Diamond Valley Eagles players scored in double figures. Guard Jasmine Simmons (163-99, college: Rock Valley JC) produced 19 points and guard Hannah Kaser (178-93, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Sabres' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Diamond Valley Eagles left bottom position moving up to fourth place in League. Loser Sabres still closes the standings with one game lost. Diamond Valley Eagles will face league's second-placed Spectres in East Burwood in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sabres will play on the road against Rangers (#3) in Dandenong and hope to get finally their first victory.
