Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Ascensores Tresa (8-17) was outscored by third ranked Maquinaria Ensino (19-6) in Gijon 83-46 on Saturday. The game without a history. Maquinaria Ensino led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ascensores Tresa to just 5 points in second quarter. It was a very good performance for American center Britany Miller (192-87, college: Florida St., agency: ProDep Management) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 rebounds. American-Irish forward Fiona ODwyer (182-99, college: Emmanuel, MA) contributed with 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Maquinaria Ensino players scored in double figures. Maquinaria Ensino's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian Isabella Sangali answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Serbian forward Katarina Vuckovic (190-94, college: Georgia Tech) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Ascensores Tresa. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Maquinaria Ensino. They moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with GDKO Bizkaia and Aros Patatas. Newly promoted Ascensores Tresa dropped to the tenth position with 17 games lost. Maquinaria Ensino will face Segle XXI (#13) in Barcelona in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Ascensores Tresa will play on the road against Arxil Pontevedra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
