Regular Season Round 31: Oviedo - FC Barcelona II 87-79

Very expected game when 17th ranked Barca II (10-21) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Oviedo CB (20-11) 87-79 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Barca II won fourth quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for Latvian Davis Geks (192-95) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Point guard Fabio Santana (188-92) helped adding 14 points and 6 assists. Santana is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Ukrainian power forward Volodymyr Gerun (208-94, college: Portland) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and Latvian Rodions Kurucs (206-98) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Oviedo CB maintains fourth place with 20-11 record. Loser Barca II dropped to the bottom position with 21 games lost. Oviedo CB will face Palma (#16) in S'Arenal in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Barca II will play at home against Ourense and hope to win that game.
