Regular Season Round 5: Melbourne T. - Nunawading S. 94-113

Everything could happen in Melbourne at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Spectres and bottom-ranked Tigers had identical 0-0 record. But Tigers were not able to use a home court advantage and were crushed by the opponent from East Burwood 113-94 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Spectres. Tigers was better in fourth quarter 37-28. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spectres well out of reach of Tigers shooting 112.1 percent from the field and made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tigers 47-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. Spectres looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Tigers were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Thomas Wright stepped up and scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners and power forward Simon Conn (206-83, college: Gardner-Webb) chipped in 19 points and 11 rebounds (on 16-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Spectres players scored in double figures. Spectres' coach used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Guard Tom Wilson (195-97, college: SMU) responded with 25 points and 4 assists (on 13-of-13 shooting from the field) and forward Max Viitala (196, college: TWU) scored 15 points (on 10-of-7 shooting from the field). Spectres (1-0) left bottom position moving up to third place in League. Loser Tigers still closes the standings with one game lost. Spectres will face Diamond Valley Eagles (#4) in Greensborough in the next round. Tigers will play at home against the league's leader Bandits (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.
