Regular Season Round 12: Gamos - Quetzales 81-65

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Ciudad de Mexico: Gamos (#3) and Quetzales (#7). Gamos (9-3) smashed visiting Quetzales (2-10) by 16 points 81-65. Gamos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Quetzales' 26 and made 23-of-26 charity shots (88.5 percent) during the game. Gamos forced 21 Quetzales turnovers. Quetzales were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American guard Hazel Ramirez (165-92, college: Loyola Mary) who scored that evening 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international Nancy Fermin (-90) supported her with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Five Gamos players scored in double figures. Even 25 points and 7 rebounds by Izchel Valdez did not help to save the game for Quetzales. Estefania Jurado added 9 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gamos moved-up to second place. Quetzales at the other side dropped to the bottom position with ten games lost. Gamos will play against Mexcaltecas (#6) in Tepic in the next round. Quetzales will play against Acereras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
