Regular Season Round 5: Melbourne T. - Nunawading S. 50-72

Date: April 8, 2018
There was a minor upset in Melbourne where 4th placed Tigers (0-1) were crushed by leader Spectres (2-0) 72-50 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Spectres. Tigers was better in fourth quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spectres well out of reach of Tigers shooting 181.6 percent from the field. The best player for the winners was guard Marena Whittle (180-94, college: N.Dakota St.) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds (on 16-of-12 shooting from the field). Forward Izzy Chilcott (180-90) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-5 shooting from the field). Guard Rebecca Cole (178-92) produced 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 17-of-8 shooting from the field) and naturalized British forward Louella Tomlinson (193-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 4 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks (on 9-of-2 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Spectres moved-up to second place in League. Loser Tigers still closes the standings with one game lost. Spectres will face Diamond Valley Eagles (#4) in Greensborough in the next round. Tigers will play at home against Lady Bandits (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.
