Regular Season Round 9: Corinthians - Macae 84-95

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Corinthians (8-2) in Sao Paulo on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Macae (5-6) 95-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Corinthians. 26 personal fouls committed by Corinthians helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Nate Barnes (178-90, college: Alders.-Broad.) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and Joao Mamedes (201-98) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Five Macae players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St., agency: Pro Sports) with 20 points and the former international point guard Humberto Gomes (195-95) scored 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Macae maintains sixth place with 5-6 record. Corinthians at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Sao Jose. Macae are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Cerrado (#9) in the next round. Corinthians will play against Brusque (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
