Regular Season Round 6: Diamond VE - Canberra C. II 57-64

Date: April 13, 2018
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when top-ranked Nationals (1-0) won against 4th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-3) in Greensborough 64-57 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 64-57. Nationals outrebounded Diamond Valley Eagles 52-34 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Keely Froling (188-96, college: SMU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Kate Gaze (173-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and guard Abigail Wehrung (177-95) added 4 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Diamond Valley Eagles. Nationals left bottom position moving up to fourth place in League. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Nationals will face Geelong Supercats (#5) at home in the next round. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against the league's leader Rangers and hope to win that game.
