Regular Season Round 6: Nunawading S. - Diamond VE 87-68

The game between closely ranked teams ended with top-ranked Spectres' (3-0) home victory over 4th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-3) in East Burwood 87-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Spectres. Diamond Valley Eagles was better in second period 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spectres dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Valley Eagles' 32. They outrebounded Diamond Valley Eagles 48-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. Diamond Valley Eagles were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Marena Whittle (180-94, college: N.Dakota St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Izzy Chilcott (180-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Spectres players scored in double figures. Spectres' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Abigail Wehrung (177-95) replied with 14 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Diamond Valley Eagles. Spectres moved-up to second place in League. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Spectres will face Frankston Blues (#8) in Seaford in the next round where they are favorite. Diamond Valley Eagles will play at home against the league's leader Rangers and hope to win that game.
