Regular Season Round 33: San-en - Toshiba BT 54-77

There was a minor upset in Hamamatsu where 3rd placed San-en NeoPhoenix (23-30) was outplayed by third ranked Toshiba Thunders (36-18) 77-54 on Saturday. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to San-en NeoPhoenix's 28. They outrebounded San-en NeoPhoenix 44-27 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Josh Davis (203-91, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Toshiba Thunders' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Shuto Tawatari (185-90) with 9 points and 8 assists and Canadian center Scott Morrison (213-86, college: Portland St., agency: Pensack Sports) scored 10 points. Toshiba Thunders maintains third place with 36-18 record having seven points less than leader Ryukyu GK which they share with defeated San-en NeoPhoenix. San-en NeoPhoenix lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with 30 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Tochigi Brex (#4) at home in the next round. San-en NeoPhoenix will play against the league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
