Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked CB Canarias (14-14) lost to second ranked Baskonia (20-8) in Vitoria 94-100 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. CB Canarias trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 34-26 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 94-100 at the end of the game. Baskonia looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. CB Canarias was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Latvian forward Janis Timma (201-92) who helped to win the game recording 20 points. Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American center Mike Tobey (212-94, college: Virginia) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and Polish swingman Mateusz Ponitka (196-93) added 20 points in the effort for CB Canarias. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia maintains second position with 20-8 record having five points less than leader Real Madrid. CB Canarias lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 14 games lost. Baskonia will face league's leader Real Madrid on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. CB Canarias will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
