Regular Season Round 33: Niigata Albirex - Ryukyu GK 68-85

Rather expected game when 4th placed Niigata Albirex (22-31) was defeated at home by first ranked Ryukyu GK (41-12) 85-68 on Sunday. Ryukyu GK made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Ryukyu GK outrebounded Niigata Albirex 41-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Niigata Albirex was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Hassan Martin (201-95, college: Rhode Island) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ryukyu GK have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 41-12 record. Niigata Albirex lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 31 games lost. Ryukyu GK will face league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Niigata Albirex will play on the road against Shimane Magic and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
