Regular Season Round 29: Chalons-Reims - Le Portel 83-75

There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Chalons-Reims (12-17) beat at home 12th ranked Le Portel (13-16) 83-75 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-21. But Le Portel won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) stepped up and scored 27 points and 6 assists for the winners and American LaMonte Ulmer (198-86, college: Rhode Island, agency: HMS) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. American power forward Franklin Hassell (205-88, college: ODU) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech) scored 19 points. Chalons-Reims maintains fourteenth place with 12-17 record. Le Portel lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Chalons-Reims will face higher ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
