Regular Season Round 29: Pau-Lacq-Orthez - Gravelines 86-81

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Gravelines-Dunkerque (14-15) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (16-13) 86-81 on Tuesday. Pau-Lacq-Orthez made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 30 Gravelines-Dunkerque turnovers. Strangely Gravelines-Dunkerque outrebounded Pau-Lacq-Orthez 68-34 including a 28-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Gravelines-Dunkerque was plagued by 40 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Chris Dowe (191-91, college: Bellarmine) stepped up and scored 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Zimbabwean power forward Vitalis Chikoko (208-91) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Pau-Lacq-Orthez players scored in double figures. American Chris Johnson (198-90, college: Dayton) responded with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and naturalized Congolese Jean-Michel Mipoka (198-85) scored 15 points. Pau-Lacq-Orthez have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Gravelines-Dunkerque dropped to the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will face Cholet Basket (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gravelines-Dunkerque will play against the league's second-placed Le Mans (#2) and hope to win that game.
