The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Tijuana Zonkeys as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Rayos de Hermosillo) loss. Tijuana Zonkeys edged 8th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis at home 85-82. American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Lathan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. American swingman DeAndre Hall (198, college: Texas Southern) replied with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Nigerian-American center Olaniyi Akingkube (208, college: N.Carolina A&T) added 20 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Tijuana Zonkeys have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Durango. Pioneros Los Mochis lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Mazatlan. Pioneros Los Mochis will play next round against Lobos UAD Mazatlan trying to get back on the winning streak. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
