Regular Season Round 9: Navolato - Hermosillo 99-87

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (5-4) against sixth ranked Garra Canera de Navolato (5-3) on Friday night. Visiting Rayos de Hermosillo was defeated by Garra Canera de Navolato in Navolato 99-87. American Kevin Rogers (206-86, college: Baylor) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Hameed Ali (188-93, college: Texas A&M-CC) chipped in 20 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Five Garra Canera de Navolato players scored in double figures. Garra Canera de Navolato's coach Andres Contreras allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international center Joaquin Villanueva (207-86) with 23 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and American swingman Quinton Chievous (198-92, college: Hampton) scored 22 points. Garra Canera de Navolato moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Guasave. Garra Canera de Navolato will again play against Rayos de Hermosillo (#6) on the road in the next round. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next round.
