There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-4) were outleveled by sixth ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (2-1) in Mt Gambier 95-63 on Friday. The game without a history. Mount Gambier Pioneers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Mount Gambier Pioneers outrebounded Diamond Valley Eagles 52-40 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Diamond Valley Eagles' players. Quite impressive performance for Kyle Tipene who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Erik Burdon (190-85) contributed with 29 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Daniel Camps (196-94, college: Queens, NC) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import forward Mike Best (208-93, college: Cal-Irvine) added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Diamond Valley Eagles. Mount Gambier Pioneers maintains sixth place in League with 2-1 record which they share with defeated Diamond Valley Eagles. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles keep the sixth position with four games lost. Mount Gambier Pioneers will face league's second-placed Bendigo Braves at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
