Regular Season Round 36: Rotterdam - Groningen 66-95

Eredivisie top team - Groningen (26-4) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Rotterdam (15-17) 95-66. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Rotterdam managed to win fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Rotterdam 49-34 including a 38-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Rotterdam's players. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Sean Cunningham (188-86, college: Cal-Riverside) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. The former international center Thomas Koenis (211-89, agency: Court Side) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Belgian point guard Ordane Kanda-Kanyinda (186-96) who recorded 12 points and American guard Marcel Boyd (208, college: Howard) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Groningen have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 26-4 record. Rotterdam lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Groningen will meet league's second-placed Den Bosch on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rotterdam will have a break next round.
