Regular Season Round 31: Coruna II - Betanzos 100-103

Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Coruna II (10-19) was edged at home by fifth ranked Betanzos (17-12) 103-100 on Saturday. Betanzos dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Coruna II's 30. Coruna II was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) helped adding 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the losing side guard Pablo Ferreiro (187-98) responded with 28 points and 6 assists and forward Ruben Rey (198-93) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Coruna II's coach Fernando Buendia tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Betanzos. They moved-up to fourth place in Group A-B, which they share with Leon. Coruna II lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Betanzos will face league's second-placed Gijon at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Coruna II will play against the league's leader Marin (#1) and hope to win that game.
