Regular Season Round 31: Gijon - Innova Chef 89-87

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Gijon (22-7) edged at home 9th ranked Innova Chef (14-15) 89-87 on Saturday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gijon forced 20 Innova Chef turnovers. It was a great evening for American point guard Kenny Hatch (180, college: Texas A&M Int.) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import guard Israel Hakim (188, college: San Francisco St.) helped adding 19 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Senegalese center Alioune Senghor (200-96) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and American swingman Corey Raley-Ross (193-91, college: Buffalo) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Five Gijon and four Innova Chef players scored in double figures. Gijon maintains second place in Group A-B with 22-7 record having just five point less than leader Vic. Loser Innova Chef dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost. Gijon will face Betanzos (#5) on the road in the next round. Innova Chef will play against Chantada and hope to win that game.
