There was a minor upset in Kariya where top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (45-10) were defeated by first ranked Ryukyu GK (42-13) 82-70 on Saturday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ryukyu GK made 7 blocks. American forward Hassan Martin (201-95, college: Rhode Island) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Forward Naoki Tashiro (188-93) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Five Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) added 22 points respectively for lost side. Ryukyu GK have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 42-13 record, which they share with Chiba Jets. Loser Aishin Sea Horses still keep top place with ten games lost. Ryukyu GK will face league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Tokyo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aishin Sea Horses will play on the road against Toyama Grouses and hope to win that game.
