There was no surprise in Bendigo where 5th ranked Hobart Chargers (1-3) were edged by leader Lady Braves (2-0) 73-70 on Saturday. Lady Braves forced 19 Hobart Chargers turnovers. It was a great evening for power forward Nadeen Payne (188-93, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory scoring 28 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Kelly Wilson (170-84) helped adding 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side American guard Brittany Smart (175-85, college: Cedarville) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import swingman Kathleen Scheer (187-89, college: Duke) scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of her seven free throws). Lady Braves maintains second place in League with 2-0 record having just 2 victories less than leader Brisbane C. Loser Hobart Chargers dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Lady Braves will face Lady Bandits (#4) in Albury in the next round. Hobart Chargers will play at home against Sabres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
