There was no surprise when 6th ranked Shimane Magic (8-47) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Niigata Albirex (24-31) 69-57 on Sunday. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) fired 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) chipped in 14 points. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Takuya Soma (181-91) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Niigata Albirex moved-up to third place. Shimane Magic lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with 47 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#4) in Hamamatsu in the next round. Shimane Magic will play at home against Nishinomiya S. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
