Regular Season Round 26: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel T-A 77-87

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Maccabi Haifa (7-18) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (14-12) 87-77 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Maccabi Haifa was better in third quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Tel-Aviv forced 20 Maccabi Haifa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was international Tomer Ginat (202-94, agency: Avi Zilberman) who scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. American Tony Gaffney (206-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) produced 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and Puerto Rican point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hapoel Tel-Aviv maintains fifth position with 14-12 record. Maccabi Haifa lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 18 games lost. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will face Hapoel Eilat (#7) at home in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play against Hapoel Jerusalem (#4) and hope to win that game.
