Very predictable result in Mt Gambier where top-ranked Bendigo Braves (4-0) defeated 6th ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (2-2) 89-75 on Friday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Bendigo Braves's pressure prevailed and they won that period 27-17 extending their advantage to 14 points. Bendigo Braves outrebounded Mount Gambier Pioneers 52-34 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Ray Turner (206-90, college: Texas A&M) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 25 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and naturalized American guard Indiana Faithfull (193-91, college: W.Liberty St.) who added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Four Bendigo Braves players scored in double figures. Naturalized British forward Lewis Thomas (203-92, college: W.Oregon) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Erik Burdon (190-85) scored 9 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Bendigo Braves maintains first position in League with 4-0 record. Loser Mount Gambier Pioneers keep the sixth place with two games lost. Bendigo Braves will face Canberra Gunners (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
