No shocking result in a game when second ranked Azuqueca (23-6) defeated at home 9th ranked Rivas (13-16) 98-90 on Saturday. Azuqueca shot 60.3 percent from the field. Azuqueca outrebounded Rivas 35-24 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Serbian power forward Branislav Tomic (205-80) who scored 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Alvaro Frutos (188-87) chipped in 13 points and 6 assists. Four Azuqueca players scored in double figures. Angel Gomez produced 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and American guard Terence Grier (188-87, college: Fair Dickinson) added 20 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Azuqueca maintains second position in Group B with 23-6 record having just four point less than leader Vic. Loser Rivas keeps the ninth place with 16 games lost. Azuqueca will face Liceo Frances (#15) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rivas will play at home against Quintanar (#12) and hope to win that game.
