Regular Season Round 8: Melbourne T. - Canberra G. 85-65

There was no surprise in Melbourne where bottom-ranked Canberra Gunners (0-4) were outplayed by sixth ranked Tigers (2-3) 85-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Tigers. Canberra Gunners was better in fourth quarter 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Gunners' 28. Tigers forced 21 Canberra Gunners turnovers and had a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tigers made 27 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Tom Wilson (195-97, college: SMU) who helped to win the game recording 28 points, 9 assists and 4 steals and center Deng Acuoth (213-96) who added 10 points and 10 assists during the contest. Center Ben Allen (211-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) responded with 24 points, 8 assists and 7 steals and guard Daniel Joyce (194-87) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 assists. Canberra Gunners' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Tigers moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Canberra Gunners still closes the standings with four games lost. Tigers will face Sabres (#7) in Cheltenham in the next round. Canberra Gunners will play at home against the league's leader Bendigo Braves and hope to get finally their first victory.
