Regular Season Round 15: Culiacan - Tijuana 92-72

CIBACOPA round 15 caused change at the leadership position. Fifth defeat of league's leader Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) against sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (8-5) 92-72 was the most important game of the last round. Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 49-31 including a 38-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward DuVaughn Maxwell (201-91, college: Hampton) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Iranian forward Mike Rostampour (203-91, college: Omaha) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Canadian forward Marvell Waithe (205-87, college: Arkansas) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains sixth place with 8-5 record. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost. They share it with Durango and Navolato. They were replaced at the leadership position by Guaymas. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Caballeros de Culiacan will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys at home.
