Eleventh-ranked Hawks (1-8) made lots of trouble for leader Lightning (8-0) in Floreat on Saturday. The visitors from Bullcreek managed to secure only one-point victory 71-70. However their fans expected much easier game. American swingman Ali Schwagmeyer (177-90, college: Quincy) stepped up and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and power forward Ashleigh Grant (187-97) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. The best for the losing side was New Zealand guard Antonia Farnworth-Edmondson (181-87) with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Lauren Jeffers (170-88) scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Hawks' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lightning maintains first place in League with 8-0 record. Loser Hawks keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Lightning will meet Wanneroo (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hawks will play against Slammers (#8) in Bunbury and hope to win that game.
