Regular Season Round 9: NW Tasmania - Geelong S. 96-78

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Ulverstone where 5th ranked Geelong Supercats (2-3) were defeated by sixth ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (3-3) 96-78 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-78. NW Tasmania Thunder made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Geelong Supercats turnovers. Strangely Geelong Supercats outrebounded NW Tasmania Thunder 43-24 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeremiah Ingram (201-93, college: N.C.Central) who scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Lachlan Barker (179-96) chipped in 24 points. Four NW Tasmania Thunder players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: Sam Houston St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward John Davis (196-94, college: Towson) added 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Geelong Supercats' coach let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. NW Tasmania Thunder maintains sixth place in League with 3-3 record which they share with defeated Geelong Supercats. Loser Geelong Supercats dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. NW Tasmania Thunder will face higher ranked Dandenong Rangers (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
