Regular Season Round 31: Real Madrid - Gipuzkoa GBC 87-75

Liga Endesa top team - Real Madrid (28-3) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat twelfth ranked Gipuzkoa (12-19) 87-75. It looked good early as Gipuzkoa took a 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Real Madrid had a 31-11 second period charge getting the lead and Gipuzkoa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-87. Real Madrid brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for international point guard Sergio Llull (190-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-92) helped adding 19 points and 5 blocks (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. At the losing side British power forward Daniel Clark (210-88) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Canadian point guard Kenny Chery (180-92, college: Baylor) scored 20 points and 5 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Real Madrid. They maintain first place with 28-3 record. Gipuzkoa lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Burgos. Real Madrid will play against UCAM Murcia (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gipuzkoa will play against Andorra (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
