Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Tornadoes (4-4) won against bottom-ranked Frankston Blues (0-9) in Launceston 98-86 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Tornadoes. Frankston Blues was better in second period 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tornadoes made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Frankston Blues turnovers. Quite impressive performance for international guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St., agency: ProDep Management) who helped to win the game recording 31 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Guard Alex Wilson (174-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Tornadoes' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international point guard Samantha Richards (167-83) replied with 28 points and 8 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) and American forward Toccara Ross (184-86, college: Iowa St.) added 20 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Frankston Blues. Tornadoes moved-up to third place in League. Loser Frankston Blues still closes the standings with nine games lost. Tornadoes will face Sydney Uni S. (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Frankston Blues will play against Tigers (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.
