Regular Season Round 10: Lakeside L. - Perth R. 86-94

Date: May 11, 2018
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when second ranked Redbacks (8-2) beat top-ranked Lightning (9-1) in Bullcreek 94-86 on Friday. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in League. Redbacks outrebounded Lightning 48-27 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a very good performance for American forward Kayla Standish (187-89, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Mikayla Pirini (169-96) contributed with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American swingman Ali Schwagmeyer (177-90, college: Quincy) replied with 20 points and 5 assists and her fellow American import forward Sydnee Fipps (178, college: Cal-Davis) added 21 points in the effort for Lightning. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Redbacks maintains second position in League with 8-2 record having just six point less than leader Bendigo LB. Loser Lightning still keeps top place with one game lost. Redbacks will face Flames (#6) in Rockingham in the next round. Lightning will play on the road against Magic (#4) in Mandurah and hope to win that game.
