Ninth-ranked UCAM Murcia (16-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Real Madrid (30-3) on Saturday. The visitors from Madrid managed to secure only two-point victory 63-61. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But UCAM Murcia won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely UCAM Murcia outrebounded Real Madrid 47-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Madrid made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-92) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American-Azerbaijani Jaycee Carroll (188-83) who added 11 points during the contest. Brazilian Vitor Benite (194-90, agency: Interperformances) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and American-Dominican swingman Sadiel Rojas (197-89, college: Okla.Wesleyan) scored 7 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Real Madrid have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 30-3 record. UCAM Murcia lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 16 games lost. Real Madrid will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UCAM Murcia will play on the road against RETAbet BB (#17) in Bilbao and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
