The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Ballarat Miners as it allowed them to take a leadership position in League. Ballarat Miners defeated 7th ranked Sabres in Wendouree 91-80. The game was mostly controlled by Ballarat Miners. Sabres was better in second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Sabres outrebounded Ballarat Miners 50-35 including 21 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Guard Peter Hooley (193-92, college: Albany) scored 25 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Davon Usher (198-92, college: Delaware) chipped in 19 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international guard Igor Hadziomerovic (193-92, college: Boise St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Makuei Puondak (203, college: Martin Methodist) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sabres' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Sabres at the other side keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Sabres will play next round against strong Geelong Supercats trying to get back on the winning streak. Ballarat Miners will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Frankston Blues at Seaford.
