Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Norwood Flames (6-2) outplayed 8th ranked Eastern Mavericks (1-7) in Marden 92-72 on Saturday. Norwood Flames outrebounded Eastern Mavericks 50-38 including 35 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a very good performance for guard Matthew Lycett (194-90) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Bryan McGriff (201, college: E.Oregon) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Norwood Flames players scored in double figures. American forward William Wise (206-92, college: Dominican, NY) replied with 16 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Jake Rios (188-86, college: Georgia Coll.) added 14 points and 4 assists in the effort for Eastern Mavericks. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Norwood Flames moved-up to third place in League. Loser Eastern Mavericks dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Norwood Flames will face Forestville Eagles (#5) in Goodwood in the next round. Eastern Mavericks will play on the road against Woodville Warriors (#8) in Flinders Park and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
