There was no surprise in Tokyo where 5th ranked Saitama Broncos (7-11) were crushed by third ranked Otsuka A. (11-7) 84-65. Otsuka A. outrebounded Saitama Broncos 49-36 including a 40-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American forward Ray Nixon (203-84, college: Wisconsin) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and power forward Takeshi Hasegawa (196-84) accounted for 5 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Four Otsuka A. players scored in double figures. American center Wendell Lewis (208-89, college: Alabama St., agency: HMS) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Masaya Ueda (177-93) added 9 points and 6 assists respectively for Saitama Broncos in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Otsuka A. moved-up to second place, which they share with Tokyo Excel. Saitama Broncos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Otsuka A.'s next round opponent will be Kagoshima (#4) in Renova. Saitama Broncos will play at home against the league's leader Tokyo HT and hope to win that game.
