Regular Season Round 33: Chalon - Le Portel 81-76
Date: May 12, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Le Portel (15-18) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Chalon/Saor (15-18) 81-76 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Le Portel won fourth quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chalon/Saor looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Belgian forward Pierre-Antoine Gillet (201-91) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Nate Wolters (193-91, college: S.Dakota St., agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 12 points and 8 assists. Four Chalon/Saor players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech) with 20 points and 9 assists and the other American import power forward Franklin Hassell (205-88, college: ODU) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Defending champion moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Le Portel. Chalon/Saor will meet Boulazac Basket (#17) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Le Portel will play against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#6) and hope to secure a win.
