Very important is a road loss of third ranked FC Barcelona (22-10) against eighth ranked CB Canarias (17-15) on Sunday night. Visiting FC Barcelona was defeated by CB Canarias in a tough game in Tenerife 81-86. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of FC Barcelona. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But FC Barcelona won third quarter 27-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded FC Barcelona 34-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. CB Canarias players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The winners were led by Greek swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84) who scored that evening 19 points and 6 rebounds and American Tim Abromaitis (203-89, college: Notre Dame) supported him with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Even 16 points and 4 assists by French point guard Thomas Heurtel (189-89, agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for FC Barcelona. Hungarian Adam Hanga (199-89, agency: Octagon Europe) added 12 points and 4 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. CB Canarias maintains eighth position with 17-15 record. FC Barcelona at the other side keeps the third place with ten games lost. They share the position with Valencia. CB Canarias will play against Blusens Monbus (#12) in Santiago de Comp in the next round. FC Barcelona will play on the road against Valencia Basket (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
