Regular Season Round 11: Penrith P. - Newcastle H. 85-93

There was no surprise in Penrith where 10th ranked Panthers (2-8) were defeated by second ranked Newcastle Hunters (9-2) 93-85 on Saturday. It was a great evening for American guard Austin Thornton (195-88, college: Michigan St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Jacob Foy helped adding 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. Forward Sean Weekes (194) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Benjamin Kearins (188, agency: MKP Management) scored 19 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newcastle Hunters maintains second place in League with 9-2 record having just nine point less than leader Mackay M. Newly promoted Panthers keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Newcastle Hunters will have a break next round. Panthers will play at home against Norths Soul Sports Bears (#3) and hope to win that game.
