Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Santiago: Sergio Ceppi (#2) and Universidad Catolica (#5). Universidad Catolica was smashed at home by 21 points 68-89 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Sergio Ceppi outrebounded Universidad Catolica 39-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. Venezuelan guard Luis Merida (190-92) scored 22 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Felipe Latorre (-93) chipped in 12 points during the contest. Four Sergio Ceppi players scored in double figures. Sergio Ceppi's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Point guard Sebastian Contreras (182-0) responded with 22 points and Manuel Barrientos scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Sergio Ceppi will have a break next round. Universidad Catolica's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Boston College.
