Date: May 25, 2018
There was an upset when higher ranked Hobart Chargers (5-5) were defeated at home by seventh ranked Ballarat Rush (4-5) 87-82 on Friday. The guests trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 30-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Taiwanese center Hsi-Le Bao (196-90) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and forward Kristy Rinaldi (181-86) who added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American swingman Kathleen Scheer (187-89, college: Duke) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and her fellow American import guard Brittany Smart (175-85, college: Cedarville) scored 24 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ballarat Rush maintains seventh position in League with 4-5 record. Loser Hobart Chargers dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Ballarat Rush will face higher ranked Tigers (#5) in Melbourne in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hobart Chargers will play at home against the league's second-placed Spectres where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
