There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (11-17) defeated on the road 7th ranked Frayles de Guasave (14-14) 88-83 on Saturday. Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) fired 20 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. The former international forward Michael Lizarraga (200-89, college: CS Northridge) chipped in 28 points. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Lobos UAD Mazatlan players scored in double figures. American forward Devin White (203-88, college: SUNO) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists and his fellow American import forward Eric Frederick (203-88, college: Texas Wesleyan) added 21 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Lobos UAD Mazatlan moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Obregon. Frayles de Guasave lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Durango. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will meet at home league's second-placed Tijuana Zonkeys in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Frayles de Guasave will play against the league's leader Garra Canera de Navolato (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
