The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Bucaneros as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Eastern Conference. Bucaneros edged bottom-ranked Marinos in La Guaira 66-63. They outrebounded Marinos 46-35 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Jamaican-Canadian forward Dwayne Smith (198-89, college: G.Washington, agency: Interperformances) who scored that evening 13 points and 8 rebounds and Bryant Duran supported him with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four Bucaneros players scored in double figures. Bucaneros' coach Luis Guil allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 22 points and 6 assists by international Jose Bracho (190-98) did not help to save the game for Marinos. Center Miguel Bolivar (205-92) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Bucaneros have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Marinos at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Marinos will play next round against strong Gigantes trying to get back on the winning streak. Bucaneros will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Panteras at Caracas.
