Regular Season Round 32: Culiacan - Guasave 104-103

The most exciting game of round 32 in the CIBACOPA took place in Culiacan. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Frayles de Guasave (15-17) to third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (18-14) 104-103 on Saturday evening. Strangely Frayles de Guasave outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 48-27 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 7 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Bruce Massey (190-90, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. Forward DuVaughn Maxwell (201-91, college: Hampton) chipped in 27 points and 5 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Martin Knezevic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman OLouis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion, agency: DTMones) produced 30 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Jaron Martin (178, college: Cal-Irvine) added 23 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan moved-up to second place, which they share with Hermosillo. Frayles de Guasave lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 17 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan is looking forward to face Tijuana Zonkeys (#4) on the road in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will play against Halcones de Ciudad Obregon and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
