Regular Season Round 33: Tijuana - Culiacan 81-80

The most exciting game of round 33 in the CIBACOPA took place in Tijuana. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Caballeros de Culiacan (18-15) to fourth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (17-16) 81-80 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballeros de Culiacan. Tijuana Zonkeys dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 34. They outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 43-28 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Naturalized American swingman Karim Scott (196-88) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Jaylen Bland (190-93, college: Cal-Riverside) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized American forward Jesse Lopez (201-94, college: Sam Houston St.) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Caballeros de Culiacan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys maintains fourth place with 17-16 record. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side dropped to the third position with 15 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys are again looking forward to face higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round.
