Regular Season Round 11: Gaiteros - Cocodrilos 84-87

A very close game took place in Maracaibo between Cocodrilos and Gaiteros. Third ranked Cocodrilos (4-6) got a very close victory on the road over bottom-ranked Gaiteros (0-8). Cocodrilos managed to escape with a 3-point win 87-84 on Wednesday evening. Cocodrilos dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Gaiteros' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) accounted for 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Naturalized Colombian Douglas Chiquito (193-86) came up with 25 points and 5 assists and point guard Jose Medina (190-92) added 13 points and 6 assists respectively for Gaiteros in the defeat. Cocodrilos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 4-6 record having two points less than leader Gigantes. Loser Gaiteros still closes the standings with eight games lost. Cocodrilos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gaiteros will play again against Cocodrilos (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.
